Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

is the most loaded flagship from the company s forces yet, scoring high on utmost aspects like performance, cameras and operation experience. The included S Pen acts as the cherry on top, and is a highly useful accessory to carry around with you. It?s got the biggest battery in the series, it allows users to take screenshots, play videos or do more without worrying about battery life, and comes with the best camera setup we?ve ever seen. If you?re not convinced of the 5G version, then the 4G version might be for you. Both phones come with 128GB of RAM and expandable storage options, but neither has an official slot to accommodate MicroSD cards.

The base smartphone starts at $1,199, while the 4GB + 256GB model goes for $1,499. A 32GB model also makes its debut, priced at $1,849. All three models include a 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD screen, running Android 11 out of the box. An IP67 water resistance rating means that users can enjoy their device even when exposed to large amounts of water. Other specifications include a quad rear camera setup, stereo speakers, NFC, dual SIM slots, fingerprint scanner, wireless charging pad support, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The main difference between the two models is how much memory they have to offer. While the base model only offers 8GB of RAM, the extra storage option lets you go up to 12GB (for the one with 64GB). There are a few other features unique to each model, including Dolby Vision HDR video recording and Live Captioning. However, I find all three are equal in terms of sheer size and capabilities.

With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, I?ve had some time to get used to the handset?s larger dimensions and what it lacks in the hardware department. Since I use this as a productivity tablet instead of something for fun, the size isn?t an issue at all. The phone took a little longer than the regular models to warm up after setting it aside for later. As usual, when working with the Note20 Plus, I was fine with the lack of a physical keyboard and having more flexibility to keep my writing tasks separate, but none of these elements matter. In fact, the bigger display size and more RAM don?t make any real difference, as long as I can get done on a day-to-day basis. One thing that did surprise me is how little weight the phone feels, which is normal for such a beastly piece of hardware, but doesn?t really compare to the rest of the Galaxy line. That said, if you need your workstation for serious business rather than just playing games, there is no reason not to buy the largest chipset possible. Still, it does cost a pretty penny, compared to the slightly more affordable devices coming out now.

The major downside to the Galaxy S22 Ultra is its limited number of ports. With two USB Type-A ports on board, the standard USB ports that were available in previous generations aren?t here to stay. For the one who wants more power than simply plugging your computer into the socket is going to let you down. I can say that because the 2.8GHz Wi-Fi chip on the Snapdragon 730G inside should help me connect both my Macbook and a laptop, but that?s not what it did for me. This is most apparent considering the missing micro SD card slot as well as the low bandwidth connectivity on this. What?s the point? Well, I do see why people may want it if there aren?t any actual good reasons. Unfortunately, it?s not great news for anyone looking for fast internet speeds over basic connectivity.

All things considered, however, both the base Galaxy S22 Plus and the higher capacity Galaxy S22 Ultra are excellent additions to our stack. I recommend holding off until you?re able to try one of them on your own since both devices are fairly similar. I hope the release date is delayed so that they can launch alongside the newer iPhone 12, keeping the older handsets alive. We could always use these new devices as alternatives for those who don?t want to spend $1,000 right out of the gate like myself. Given these are still early days, expect more surprises along the way.
